Performance
Built for the final minutes.
The last few minutes of an auction are when it matters most: the most people watching, the most bids, and no room for error. Vendue is built for that moment, and we test it hard to prove it.
0
bids lost
Not one confirmed bid lost in over 100,000 test bids. When your bidder sees “You’re the high bidder”, it’s saved.
Under ¼ second
for every screen to update
A new bid reaches everyone watching almost instantly, so nobody is bidding against a price that has already moved.
Under ½ second
from the clock hitting zero to closed
Every auction ends when it says it will, even with 500 auctions ending in the same second.
Tested bigger than your busiest day
We pushed Vendue well beyond what most shops will ever need, so there’s plenty of room when your big drop lands.
8,000
people watching a single item in its final minutes, with every bid counted and the auction closing on time
2,000
auctions running at once across 20 shops, with over 15,000 people watching
500
auctions all ending in the same second
1 hour
of non-stop bidding, with nothing slowing down
If something goes wrong, fairness comes first
No online service can promise it will never have a problem. What we can promise is how we’ll handle one: we’ll work to get bidding back as quickly as we can, and we’ll make sure the problem doesn’t decide who wins.
Confirmed bids stand
If a bidder was told their bid was accepted, it counts.
The clock stops with the bidding
If bidding on Vendue is interrupted, auctions don’t end in the meantime, so nobody wins just because others couldn’t bid.
Everyone gets a fair finish
When bidding is back, auctions that were close to ending get time back on the clock, and bidders are told the new end time.
You choose how longer interruptions are handled, in your Vendue settings.
The numbers
For anyone who likes the detail. Each figure is the slowest we saw across all our tests, not the best.
| What we measure | Typical | 99 in 100 | Slowest seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| A bid confirmed back to the bidder | 9 ms | 99 ms | 129 ms |
| A new bid showing on every other watcher’s screen | 146 ms | 200 ms | 245 ms |
| An auction closing after its end time | 120 ms | 428 ms | 431 ms |
| Confirmed bids lost | 0, across 102,435 bids | ||
Measured with 4,000 people watching one auction, with bids arriving about 25 times a second in its final minutes.
Real-world times will be higher
These figures measure our platform itself. What your bidders see also depends on things outside of our control: how far away they are, their internet provider and connection, their device and browser, and your store’s theme etc.
That’s why every Vendue auction has a soft close: a bid in the final minutes extends the clock, so a bidder a little further away never loses to the clock. They simply bid again.
Our promise
We keep testing, and we keep this page honest.
